Clinical Social Worker / Psychotherapist
Bachelor of Arts, Masters of Social Work, Social Worker Candidate
Hello! I am currently registered as a social worker candidate (SWC) with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW). I attended Dalhousie University where I completed a Bachelor of Arts with a combined Honours in International Development Studies and Spanish. I completed my Master of Social Work, with a clinical specialization from the University of Calgary, in 2022.
I have completed training in Narrative Therapy, through the University of Calgary and from the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy, as well as training in conflict resolution techniques, solution-focused therapy, body-oriented counselling, and play-based approaches. I am particularly interested in the power of the story (the story we tell ourselves, the story we tell others, the story we hide, the story of our wishes) and will incorporate narrative processes, creativity, and connection with nature whenever possible. I believe in the power of a story to gain insight and to heal.
I have lived, worked, and studied in five different countries, five different provinces, and fifteen different cities. Living at home and abroad I have learned the importance of flexibility and the power of relationship. I love working with and across differences; your experiences, story, strengths, and needs, shape how you interact with your world. Counselling too moves along your storyline, not along my predetermined path or preferences. I strongly believe that people can resolve their problems and are often the best people to do so, even if they need support to change their story.
In my spare time I enjoy making things with my hands (painting, drawing, sewing, crotchet, weaving, gardening), playing with my nephew, cooking for my family, camping, and being near or (preferably) in large bodies of water. Each of these activities tells a story, carries meaning for me, and feeds my soul.
"As a counsellor, it would be my honour to walk your journey with you and to support you in interpreting the roads you have already travelled, as well as in finding your own best path forward." - Jocelyn
