Meet Nyanza
Nyanza Julian
Student Therapist - Yorkville University, Master's of Counselling Psychology Candidate
BA in Sociology/Anthropology, MA in Counselling Psychology (Pending Graduation)
Nyanza is a proud Mi’kmaw woman who is deeply committed to promoting equity, social justice, and advocacy. Her passion for Counselling Psychology comes from a desire to support individuals navigating various systems, from personal to societal levels. Nyanza integrates an etuaptmumk (two-eyed seeing) approach, blending Indigenous knowledge with western therapeutic methods. This perspective, along with her own lived experience of intergenerational trauma, intergenerational strength and resilience, and systemic racism, allows her to provide a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach to therapy.
In her practice, Nyanza sees you as the expert of your own life while offering support and guidance. Her approach is rooted in person-centered care, while also honoring the traditional storytelling practices of the L’nu people. She combines this with a narrative therapy approach and, when appropriate, other alternative therapies to best meet your needs. At the heart of Nyanza’s work are values of respect, reciprocity, and building strong, supportive relationships. She is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you can freely share your experiences and explore your emotions.
"I am here to walk alongside you in your healing journey." ~Nyanza
