Meet Jocelyn
Jocelyn Christian
Clinical Social Worker / Psychotherapist
Bachelor of Arts, Masters of Social Work, Social Worker Candidate
Jocelyn is a registered as a social worker candidate (SWC) and holds a master's degree in social work. She attended Dalhousie University where she completed a Bachelor of Arts with a combined Honours in International Development Studies and Spanish. She completed a clinical specialization during her master's from the University of Calgary, in 2022.
Jocelyn completed training in Narrative Therapy through the University of Calgary and the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy. She has training in conflict resolution techniques, solution-focused therapy, body-oriented counselling, and play-based approaches. She is particularly interested in the power of the story - the story we tell ourselves, the story we tell others, the story we hide, and the story of our wishes. Jocelyn will incorporate narrative processes, creativity, and connection with nature whenever possible. She believes in the power of a story to gain insight and to heal.
Jocelyn has lived, worked, and studied in five different countries, five different provinces, and fifteen different cities. Living at home and abroad she has learned the importance of flexibility and the power of relationship. She loves working with, and across differences. She believes your experiences, story, strengths, and needs, shape how you interact with your world, and that counselling too moves along your storyline, not along her predetermined path or preferences. She strongly believes that people can resolve their problems and are often the best people to do so, even if they need support to change their story.
In her spare time, Jocelyn enjoys making things with her hands like painting, drawing, sewing, crotchet, weaving, and gardening. She enjoys playing with her nephew, cooking for her family, camping, and being near or, preferably, in large bodies of water. Each of these activities tells a story for her, carries meaning for her, and feeds her soul.
"It would be my honour to walk your journey with you, to support you in interpreting the roads you have already travelled, and to help you find your own best path forward."
